Terms & conditions of use

English translation. This translation is provided for convenience only. In case of any discrepancy, the German version is the legally binding one: read the German original.

Section 1 Provider and scope

The provider of the Lab Mate app is Talea Labs GbR, Nelly-Sachs-Str. 24, 73760 Ostfildern, Germany (hereinafter “we”). These terms of use apply to the use of the Lab Mate app and of this website. By registering, you accept them.

Section 2 What Lab Mate is

Lab Mate is an app for recording your lab results and having them interpreted in plain language. Values get in by three routes: typed in manually, from an uploaded report PDF, or from a photo of the printout. The app knows 249 lab values in 16 categories, places them against reference ranges with colour coding, and shows the history of each value over time.

Lab Mate is a tool for self-documentation. It is not a medical device and makes no medical statement — see section 9.

Section 3 Account

You need an account in order to use the app. You can register with an email address, with Google or with Apple. You are responsible for the security of your password and for everything that happens under your account. An account is not transferable.

Use requires that you are of full age or have the consent of a parent or guardian.

Section 4 Your content

The data you record belongs to you. You grant us only the right to store it in order to operate the app and to make it available on your devices. We do not analyse it for any other purpose, do not pass it on for advertising purposes and do not sell it.

Processing by a language model. If you use the AI-assisted analysis or the import by PDF or photo, the values in question, or the document, are transmitted to a language model provider for processing. Without that transmission the two functions are technically impossible. Which providers these are, and on what basis this happens, is set out in the privacy policy. All other functions work without this transmission.

Section 5 Availability

We endeavour to achieve high availability but do not owe it without interruption. Where possible we schedule maintenance outside peak usage times. We are not liable for disruptions at upstream providers — app stores, network operators, data centres, language model providers.

Section 6 Lab Mate Premium

The basic functions are free of charge: recording and storing values, the library of lab values, your own values and your own reference ranges, the colour-coded assessment, and history and trends.

The additional functions described under “Premium” are subject to charge, currently the AI-assisted analysis of your values and the import by PDF or photo with value recognition.

Plans and prices. There is a monthly subscription (€3.99), a yearly subscription (€24.99) and a one-off purchase (€79.99). All prices include statutory VAT.

Billing. The purchase is currently concluded via this website; payment is handled by our payment service provider. We do not receive complete payment data in the process. If you instead take out Premium through the App Store (Apple) or Google Play, their terms additionally apply, and term, renewal and cancellation are governed by the subscription management of the respective store.

Term and renewal. The monthly subscription runs for one month, the yearly subscription for one year. Both renew automatically for the same period unless cancelled in good time before they expire. The one-off purchase is not a subscription and does not renew.

Cancellation. You cancel a subscription concluded via this website by an informal message to [email protected], at the latest one day before the end of the current billing period. A subscription concluded through an app store can only be cancelled in that store’s subscription management — we cannot end it there on your behalf.

Scope. Premium applies to your account, across platforms, on every device on which you are signed in with it.

Price changes. We may change prices for future billing periods. We will give at least one month’s notice of this; you may cancel up until the change takes effect.

Section 7 Right of withdrawal

Consumers have a fourteen-day right of withdrawal. The period begins when the contract is concluded. An unambiguous declaration to [email protected] is sufficient for withdrawal.

Early expiry. The right of withdrawal expires if we have begun performance after you have expressly agreed that we may begin before the end of the withdrawal period and you have confirmed that you are aware of the expiry — in practice, therefore, upon activation of the Premium functions.

If the purchase is handled through the App Store or Google Play, a refund is additionally governed by the rules of the respective provider.

Section 8 Termination

You can remove your account at any time in the app under Settings → Delete account. The associated data is deleted in the process; deletion is irreversible. Export beforehand whatever you want to keep. A running subscription does not automatically end when the account is deleted — it must be cancelled separately (section 6).

We may block or terminate an account if these terms are seriously breached.

Section 9 Liability, and what Lab Mate is not

Lab Mate is no substitute for medical advice. The app records and interprets; it makes no diagnosis, gives no treatment advice and is not a medical device. The colour-coded assessment and the AI-assisted analysis are pointers for orientation, not findings. A doctor must be consulted for every decision concerning your health. In the case of acute symptoms, contact a doctor or the emergency services directly.

Reference ranges are guide values. They depend on the measurement method and the laboratory and may differ from the ranges stated on your own report. The information from your laboratory and the judgement of your doctor always take precedence.

Recognised values must be checked. When importing from a PDF or a photo, the recognition may take values over incorrectly or incompletely. The app shows you the result before saving; checking it is your responsibility.

We are liable without limitation in cases of intent and gross negligence, and for injury to life, body and health. In cases of ordinary negligence we are liable only for breach of material contractual obligations, and limited in amount to the damage typical of the contract and foreseeable. Liability under the German Product Liability Act remains unaffected.

Section 10 Changes

We may change these terms where there is an objective reason to do so — for instance new functions or a changed legal situation. We will give at least six weeks’ notice of material changes by email or in the app. If you do not object before the change takes effect, the changes are deemed accepted; we will draw your attention to this separately in the notice.

Section 11 Final provisions

German law applies. Mandatory consumer protection provisions of your country of residence remain unaffected.

The European Commission provides a platform for online dispute resolution: ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We are neither willing nor obliged to take part in dispute resolution proceedings before a consumer arbitration board.
